Consulate Helping Detroiters Contact Family In Japan
DETROIT (WWJ) - In the aftermath of what has been deemed the most powerful earthquake in Japan's history, many Japanese Americans in Metro Detroit are frantically trying to reach loved ones in Japan.
Speaking live on WWJ, the Consul General of Japan in Detroit, Mr. Kuninori Matsuda said they are working hard to help families make contact.
"If there's any need either from a Japanese citizen waiting in Michigan or Americans who have relatives or friends in Japan, please don't hesitate to contact us," Matsuda said.
Matsuda explained that while they do not have an exact death toll, he is expecting the number to be devastating.
"We have not yet compiled an exact number, but according to the information which I received, the death toll is surpassing more than one-thousand and there's another same number of the people still missing," Matsuda said.
