Construction Jobs On The Rise In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - The construction industry is on the rebound in areas of southeast Michigan, according to Todd Doenitz, Michigan Chairman of the Associated General Contractors of America.
Doenitz credits an increase in construction jobs to private sector demand and projects for the Detroit Public School District.
"During the past twelve months 1,800 new construction jobs have been created in the Detroit, Livonia and Dearborn area, a ten percent increase," said Doenitz. "Another 4,300 construction jobs were created around the Warren, Troy and Farmington Hills area, a twelve percent increase."
It has taken the better part of a decade, but Doenitz said the long sump in the construction industry may be coming to an end.
"The Detroit area added more construction jobs between June 2010 and June 2011, more than anytime year-to-year since September 2000," he said.
Doenitz made the announcement while visiting the construction site for the Children's Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center in Detroit.
