Community Connect Spotlight: Detroit Police Department
Southfield (CW50) - Todd Bettison serves as the Deputy Chief overseeing as the Neighborhood Liaison. The Chief of Police for the Detroit Police Department elevated the Commander position to Deputy Chief in order to put the community outreach at the forefront of the department, making it just as important as patrols and safety.
On this week's COMMUNITY CONNECT, Lisa Germani sits downs with Deputy Chief Bettison to talk about what the Detroit Police are doing for the holiday season.
Partnering with neighborhood businesses and leaders is important to the department during the holiday season, because they are the ones that come through with food donations for families in need. The police officers within the neighborhoods that know the families determine which ones need the most help during the holidays.
The police department also supports the families with clothing and toy donations.
Cop Stuff-A-Car is a challenge where community businesses are challenged to fill a cop car with hundreds of toys to distribute them personally to families.
The Deputy Chief also went over safety tips for going downtown during the holidays.
