Community College Teacher Charged In MI Murder
A Charlotte, North Carolina-area community college instructor has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a Michigan woman.
The Charlotte Observer reports that 56-year-old Julie Ann Hopwood was arraigned Sunday in Romulus, Mich. on a charge of first-degree murder.
Hopwood has taught respiratory therapy at Central Piedmont Community College since 2003. She's accused of driving to Michigan last week and shooting 35-year-old Amy Chesbro.
Investigators say Hopwood and Chesbro had known each other for several years, but did not discuss a possible motive.
It couldn't be immediately determined Monday if Hopwood has a lawyer.
College spokeswoman Jessica Graham says the school doesn't publicly discuss personnel matters.
