Community Choice Foundation to Award $100,000 in Scholarships
The Community Choice Foundation, founded by Farmington Hills-based Community Choice Credit Union, is awarding a minimum of $100,000 in college scholarships this May.
Scholarship opportunities are available to graduating high school seniors from Southeast Michigan who will be attending an accredited Michigan college or university and plan to pursue a career in the state of Michigan.
These generous awards are not limited to members of Community Choice Credit Union. To apply, students must pledge their commitment to Michigan and explain in an essay how they would like to use their education and career to give back to their communities.
Robert Bava, CEO of Community Choice Credit Union, founded the Community Choice Foundation to incent Michigan's best and brightest students to remain in Michigan and help rebuild our great state.
"With a troubled economy, tough job market, and the rising costs of higher education, Michigan is struggling to keep its best and brightest students and rebuild our great state," Bava said. "While none of us can single-handedly solve these problems, we believe we can harness the cooperative spirit that our credit union was founded on to make a tremendous difference."
Since 2009, the Community Choice Foundation has awarded $205,000 in scholarships to 41 Southeast Michigan students. They are now pursuing their higher education at Michigan colleges and giving back to their communities.
To be eligible, students are required to be graduating with at least a 3.0 grade point average from high schools within the Community Choice charter counties of Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, or Wayne counties. In addition, students must show acceptance into an accredited community college, college, or university in the state of Michigan, pursuing an Associates or Bachelors Degree.
Applications must be completed by March 3. Students should visit www.communitychoicecu.com to review the full eligibility requirements and complete the application.
