Community Choice Credit Union Announces Fourth Annual Give Big Weekend
FARMINGTON HILLS -- In an effort to pay it forward to the communities that it serves, Community Choice Credit Union has announced that its fourth annual Give Big Weekend will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15 and Sunday, Sept. 16.
Last year, Community Choice employees and their family members combined to volunteer 750 hours during Give Big Weekend. In addition, the credit union raised nearly $9,000 which directly benefited charitable programs. The donated time and money helped charities and local organizations including Gleaners Community Food Bank; Vista Maria; the American Diabetes Association; Kensington Metropark; and Canterbury on the Lake.
This year, Community Choice is asking for support from both its members and people in surrounding communities who wish to pay it forward. The credit union is publicly inviting anyone interested in participating to join the Community Choice Team for the Step Out Walk To Stop Diabetes event on Sept. 15 which will be held at the Detroit Zoo. Currently there are 293 teams, composed of 1,572 people, signed up for the walk.
The walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and is approximately two miles long. Participants are required to raise $25 which will go directly to The American Diabetes Association; all participants receive free admission to the zoo on Sept. 15. "Giving Big is all about uniting as one to support charitable causes," said president and CEO Robert Bava. "When team members at Community Choice engage with our local communities, we know the sum of what we can achieve is far greater than what we can achieve as individuals. Whether it's Give Big Weekend or the $100,000 that the credit union provides in scholarships every year, we are committed to improving our communities."
Community Choice team members, family, and friends will also be volunteering on Give Big Weekend at charities and local organizations performing the following tasks:
* Packaging food at Gleaners Community Food Bank
* Assisting with registration for the second annual Earthworks Farms Harvest Dinner Event
* Grounds beautification at Vista Maria & Kensington Metropark
Anyone looking to make an immediate impact is invited to visit one of Community Choice Credit Union's seven Southeast Michigan branches to donate non-perishable food items through September 14. All collected food donations will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank. To date, the Credit Union has received a total of 375 food items.
Established in 1935, Community Choice Credit Union is dedicated to the basic fundamentals of service and investment in its broader communities. CCCU serves individuals in Michigan who live, work, or worship in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw or Wayne County.
