Comcast Hosts Job Fairs
Comcast is hiring again. This time, they need technicians in the field for repairs and installations and for warehouse positions at their Wixom facility. They are holding two career fairs this week to fill the jobs -- the first being held Monday until 3 p.m. at the University of Phoenix Center in Livonia.
Comcast's Pat Paterno tells WWJ's Ron Dewey they are also looking for that go-get-em type of quality in people, "I was here at 8 and people were arriving at 8:30, trying to interact with me, make conversation -- that's what you need to do to get a job," he said.
Terrance Ellis of Ypsilanti wore a suit and tie to the career fair, hoping to get a start in the warehouse and work his way up. He would like to stay in the area after he graduates from Eastern Michigan University in December, "While other companies are leaving, Comcast is here," Ellis said. "I tip my hat to them."
Comcast is filling 80 positions in the weeks to come. Another career fair will be held in Troy Wednesday, October 13, at ITT-Technical Institute in Troy from 1 until 5pm.
Communications technicians will install and service all Comcast products including Comcast Video, Comcast High Speed Internet, and Comcast Digital Voice. The warehouse specialists will provide basic support of warehouse operations and inventory accuracy, as well as load and unload equipment from trucks and scan equipment received into the inventory system. The warehouse specialists must be able to lift 80 pounds, operate necessary hand tools and vehicles, and have some experience in stocking and working in a warehouse environment.
A high school diploma and/or equivalent work experience is required for either position.
