Colts Propose Nine-Point Touchdown

CBS DETROIT - Amid 18 rule proposals submitted by NFL clubs for review by the competition committee, 13 relate to replay. One involves a significant change in the scoring of the game.
In an effort to motivate teams to more often attempt two-point conversions, the Indianapolis Colts have proposed that teams be able to kick a "bonus field goal" after a successful two-point conversion.
In effect, teams going for two points would be going for the chance to get three points. If a team successfully tried a two-point conversion, it could score a third point by then kicking a 50-yard field goal.
More or less, Indianapolis is advocating a nine-point touchdown. St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher, a member of the competition committee, talked about the proposal in a teleconference Wednesday.
"As we go through the process here this week, we'll let them go ahead and discuss it in more detail," Fisher said. "But that's our understanding, that if a team elects to go for two and you're successful, then you would get a bonus point."
The competition committee will convene in Phoenix next week to discuss that proposal and 22 others. In addition to the 18 made by clubs, the committee itself has made five submissions.
