College Athletes Volunteer To Help Flint Amid Water Crisis

FLINT (AP) — College athletes are among those volunteering to help Flint amid the city's crisis with lead-tainted drinking water.

The Detroit News reports that about 30 from Michigan State University helped pass out water and collect empty plastic bottles Friday outside a Flint shopping center.

Schupan Recycling, Republic Services and the Michigan Community Service Commission were part of the effort.

Michigan State student athletes will help again over three Saturdays starting next week.

Last month, Eastern Michigan University and partners including the Ypsilanti school's Department of Athletics launched a water drive for Flint.

The department's 48-foot football equipment truck was made available for the effort and members of the school's football team delivered water. Another delivery Feb. 12 is planned.
