Coast Guard Searching For Body Near Grosse Ile
GROSSE ILE (WWJ) - The Coast Guard plans to resume their search downriver for what might be a body floating in the Detroit River.
WWJ's Ron Dewey reported that the Coast Guard sent out a chopper and a ship to the Grosse Ile area on the Detroit River Monday afternoon after someone spotted what appeared to be a body in the water. This comes almost a week after 28-year-old Ken Morton fell 150 feet from the Ambassador Bridge while doing maintenance work over the river.
The sighting at Grosse Ile was about 10 miles further downriver from the bridge. The chopper searched Monday for 45 minutes before having to pull away because of fuel. A Coast Guard vessel searched longer before calling the search off for the night. A chopper will return to the area Tuesday morning.
