Coalition Calls On Businesses To Clean Up Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - They want the city cleaned up! Detroiters will gather in front of the abandoned Michigan Central Depot Friday morning to call for greater participation from the area's big businesses in cleaning up the city.
The rally is being led by the Reverend David Bullock, president of the Rainbow Push Coalition Detroit chapter.
"We believe that the notion of shared sacrifice, that we've heard so much about, should apply to our corporate communities as well," Bullock said.
The coalition, which is associated with the Reverend Jesse Jackson, said banks should help clean up the city's abandoned buildings.
"It does not seem fair for banks and or private owners to own a massive amount of homes in the City of Detroit that lie dormant, that lie vacant, that lie abandoned in our neighborhoods," Bullock said.
The group is planning to call on businesses at 10 am Friday.
