Clinton Campaign Pushing For Democratic Debate In Flint
FLINT (AP) — Hillary Clinton's campaign is calling for a Democratic debate in Flint as the city copes with a lead-contaminated water crisis.
It says Saturday that one should be in Flint to "use the spotlight of the presidential campaign" to highlight the city's struggles.
Clinton's campaign agreed with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' campaign to hold another presidential debate next week. They are discussing three more in the spring.
Flint switched in 2014 to the Flint River from Detroit's water system to save money. The river water was not treated properly and lead from pipes leached into homes. High lead levels have been found in some children.
Clinton has said the response would have been quicker if it occurred in "a rich white suburb." More than half of Flint's 100,000 residents are black.
