Clean-Up Underway After 4,000 Gallons Of Diesel Fuel Spill In Auburn Hills
AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - A 4,000 gallon diesel fuel spill in Auburn Hills Monday is now being cleaned up. Police Lieutenant Ryan Gagnon says it happened at a business near I-75 and Lapeer Road when a valve malfunctioned on a backup generator at RGIS.
"They have a backup generator, which contains, as a source of fuel, diesel fuel container and roughly four-thousand gallons of had spilled or leaked out of the container into, basically a storm drain," said Lt. Gagnon.
He tells WWJ that there were no evacuations, but he's not sure how long clean-up will take because of the weather.
"There's no evidence that the fuel leaked in any public sanitary system at this time, mainly contained on the property there at this retention pond," said Gagnon.
He says it may take some time because drainage areas and the retention pond are frozen.
Gagnon says the company has hired an environmental clean-up company to address the spill, which also went into a storm drain.
