City Workers Welcome 'Strong Cities, Strong Communities' Initiative
DETROIT (WWJ) - The head of Detroit's Workforce Development Department is welcoming help from the Obama Administration.
Detroit is among five other cities that will be part of the program, known as "Strong Cities, Strong Communities." The program focuses on areas of planning and development, transportation (which includes the much talked about light rail system) and workforce development.
Pamela Moore believes the new federal program announced in Detroit this week will give her department much-needed support.
"We need someone to kind of come in and connect the dots. We have lots and lots of federal funding. Our department is pretty much 100 percent funded by federal grants, but we do need assistance in creating partnerships with businesses out here that commit to hiring Detroiters," Moore said.
Moore believes that the federal assistance will also benefit her department because right now it's short-staffed.
