City Council Considering Hiking Price Of Riding Bus In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit City Council is scheduled to discuss an increase in the regional DDOT bus pass from $49 to $69 dollars.
Riders say they wouldn't mind a small rate increase if bus service were better, but say a $20 dollar increase is too much.
"It doesn't sound right, but I can image that since they are raising the gas prices, I guess they would raise the gas fare," says one man who rides the DDOT buses on a regular basis.
If you take a bus to and from work or school and you are late, you are the ones that's going to get in trouble, you are the one who is going to lose your job, and yet you are paying the city to take the bus to get to work on time, so I don't agree with that," says another regular bus rider.
"It doesn't make sense, if you are going to raise the prices why don't you raise the service," comments an older rider.
The hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center.
