Citizen's Tip Leads Police To Alleged Bank Robbers
An alert citizen has helped solve a handful of bank robberies in Oakland County.
Sheriff deputies, with the help of Troy Police and the FBI, arrested a 20-year old Troy resident and an 18-year old from Madison Heights Tuesday evening just hours after the PNC Bank at Walton and Old Perch roads in Rochester Hills was robbed.
The Roseville man called police after seeing some unusual activity near the bank. The information led police to the Hampton Inn on Van Dyke Road in Sterling Heights where the suspects' vehicle was found.
When the suspects went to leave, they were arrested. Money allegedly taken from the robbery was found in the suspects' pockets and an "airsoft" gun used in the robbery was recovered in the car. More money was found in their hotel room.
Investigators accuse Jurgen Golemi of robbing the bank and threatening employees and several customers with what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun. 18-year old Devid Kamel Sahyoon-Wahba allegedly drove the getaway car. Both were arraigned Thursday on armed robbery and bank robbery charges.
Police say Sahyoon-Wahba is an Egyptian citizen and in the U.S. illegally. He could be deported.
Golemi also is a suspect in four other bank robberies, three in Oakland County and one in Ohio. Charges are pending in those cases.
Sheriff Mike Bouchard praised the Roseville man for his quick thinking.
"Without his actions these suspects most likely would not be in jail today and free to commit more crimes," Bouchard said. He also praised Troy and Sterling Heights police and the FBI.
