Citizens Join Search For Kidnapped Women
HAMTRAMCK (WWJ) - The ex-boyfriend of a missing Hamtramck woman was in court Thursday on unrelated charges, as police continue their search for the woman and her friend.
The 18-year-old Abreeya Brown and her friend, 21-year-old Ashley Conaway were abducted Tuesday night.
Meantime, as the anxious families await word on the missing women, some community groups are taking matters into their own hands.
Community activist Brenda Hill was part of a small but determined group who gathered in Hamtramck to help in the search.
"We want 'em back ... We're gonna blanket this city. And if we have to blanket this city today, we have to blanket this city tomorrow, we have to blanket this city the next day. We're not gonna stop."
Hill said it's time for everyone to mobilize.
"We don't know where these girls are. So, you know where ground zero is? This whole city. And that's what we want. We want a flier in everybody's hand, every citizen's hand," she said. "Somebody knows where these girls are, and we're saying 'enough!'"
The women were taken at gunpoint from their Hamtramck neightborhood. They haven't been heard from since Conaway sent a text message saying the two were locked in the trunk of a car.
