Citations Issued In Death Of Ambassador Bridge Painter
DETROIT (WWJ)- More than $100,000 in fines were issued to companies working on the Ambassador Bridge in January when a painter plunged to his death.
After a several-months-long investigation, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration has found there was plenty wrong at the work site where Kent Morton fell into the icy Detroit River.
MIOSHA said there were no life rings or life boats to rescue Kent Morton from the frigid waters, and he wasn't wearing the safety equipment that may have prevented him from falling off the bridge.
The 27-year-old man was part of a group of workers from Seaway Painting who were hired to paint a sign and the central span of the bridge.
More than half the fines went to Seaway Painting. Also fined were Walter Toebe Construction and Rahorn Electric. The companies have two weeks to protest the citations.
