Chrysler Trenton Plant Workers Vote For New Schedule
TRENTON (WWJ) - Chrysler workers at the Trenton Engine Plant have voted overwhelmingly to end a rotating shift schedule.
The vote was 365 to 93 to abandon the controversial system that had workers on days one week, and then nights another week. Many workers complained that they couldn't get into any kind of routine and were concerned that it was hurting their health.
Now, Trenton Engine Plant employees will go to the traditional day shift and night shift, with assignments based on seniority. The UAW says they'll move as quickly as possible to implement the change.
About 640 people work at the Trenton plant which makes Chrysler's new V-6 Penta Star engine.
