Chrysler Detroit Plant To Host a VIP Visitor
DETROIT -- (WWJ) Chrysler's Jefferson North plant is going to play host to one of the driving forces of the fall of communism in Eastern Europe.
Former Polish President Lech Walesa will tour the plant next Thursday,
April 26th. He'll be show around by Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne and UAW Vice President General Holyfield.
Walesa founded the Solidarity trade union, and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983.
"Walesa will be traveling to Detroit from Chicago where he will participate in the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates," read a press release from Chrysler. "The World Summit is internationally recognized as among the most important annual events in the field of peacemaking, attracting hundreds of high-profile leaders and organizations around the world."
Chrysler's Jeep brand is a sponsor of that summit.
Chrysler's Jefferson North Plant builds the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Dodge Durango. It will soon expand to a three shift, round-the-clock operation.
