Chrysler Cuts Back Overtime Due To Parts Shortages
(Auburn Hills-WWJ) Chrysler Group is cutting overtime at plants in Canada and Mexico to conserve parts from Japan.
Assembly plants in Brampton, Ontario, and Toluca, Mexico are affected. The Brampton plant makes several products, including Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger.
The factory in Mexico produces The Dodge Journey small sedan and Fiat 500 economy car.
This is the first time Chrysler has linked production slowdowns to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which has caused a shortage of Japanese-made parts shipped to North America. The automaker idled its Windsor minivan plant this week due to parts shortages, but says it is unrelated to the situation in Japan.
