Chris Huck: A Difference Maker In The Community

TROY (WWJ) - Christopher Huck has been a Troy police officer for five years.

Last May, Huck was driving his routine overnight route through the city when he noticed smoke coming from a home.

"When I pulled up I could see the flames coming from the back of the house, and they were above the roof line," Huck said. "I forced the door open, went inside, and I found a father and two children sleeping upstairs in their bedrooms. And I was able to get them out of the house, just as the fire department was arriving."

The home had no working smoke detectors. Huck is married and the father of a 1-year-old son. Was he thinking of his family when he entered the burning home?

"To be honest with you the thought didn't really cross my mind. You know, being a public servant ... I never really thought twice about it. I just was doing my job," Huck said. Huck also volunteers for the Troy Fire Department, making an average of two runs a week for them on his own time.
