Chocolate Shoes: High Fashion That Looks And Tastes Great

CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - They'll melt in your mouth and on your foot -- but the chocolate shoe is what many Metro Detroiters will be putting in their Easter basket this Sunday.

WWJ's Kathryn Larson has more on a Native Clinton Township woman who's selling her sweet tasting stilettos locally, and all across the nation.

Chocolatier Marquette Demarais stopped by the CBS Radio studios in Southfield to talk more about her top seller.

"The chocolate shoe is an item that does very well, and it's not something that you would normally see when you walk into your local chocolatier shop," said Demarais.

At $35 a piece, the signature chocolate shoes were responsibe for 90 percent of Demarais' Valentine's Day orders. But special requests for pastel pink pumps are coming in for Easter baskets.

"They're spray painted with colored coco butter. And I'll spray paint them to the color that you choose, so it comes in a variety of colors and a variety of trims," she said.

Demarais said she expects to make hundreds of chocolate shoes for Mother's Day. So what makes these shoes look and taste so good?

"When you bite into a piece of Belgian chocolate, it's like heaven on earth. It's fantastic, the taste, the texture. It has the crispness, the snap, it's wonderful," she said.

Demarais sells her shoes and other items including custom chocolate frames and other treats -- through  web order exclusively at Marquetteonline.com. You can also creak out her custom creations on the Marquette Handcrafted Chocolates & Pastries Facebook page.
