WWJ Exclusive: Chinese Auto Company To Invest In SE Mich.
China's Changan Automotive, the world's 13th largest auto manufacturer, announces it will open a research and development center in Plymouth within the next six months.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Marie Osborne, who is in China with a Wayne County trade delegation, broke the story.
Changan intends to hire 120 engineers over the next five years and is said to be exploring the possibility of opening a light manufacturing facility and proving grounds in southeastern Michigan.
Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano says of the deal with Changan, "We've been working with them for close to a year."
Changan currently produces less than two million vehicles a year but plans call for annual production of up to six million worldwide by 2016.
