Chilly, Windy Weather Moves In
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The next few days are going to feel a lot more like fall.
Forecasters say showers will continue off and on overnight over Southeast Michigan, leading us into a chilly, windy and wet Friday.
WWJ-TV Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus says the National Weather Service is predicting a chance of thunderstorms Thursday evening, primarily before 10 p.m. The potential exists for a few storms to become severe, mainly south of I-69. These storms will be capable of producing wind gusts to 60 mph, and a tornado also cannot be ruled out. Heavy downpours and small hail are also possible.
The Indiana Toll Road is temporarily banning some lengthy semitrailer rigs from the western part of the highway because of high wind gusts forecast for the region.
The Toll Road says the ban is in place from through 2 p.m. Friday for all triple-trailers and long doubles between the South Bend West Toll Plaza and the WestPoint Toll Plaza. That's 72 miles of highway.
High winds are also expected to hit Grand Rapids and the western Michigan area, Thursday night and continuing through Friday afternoon.
Temperatures will hold in the low 50s on Friday, but forecasters say it will feel every chillier than that when you factor in the wind. It will be brisk and colder Friday night, with more showers possible, and lows in the low 40s.
Things are looking just a bit better for the weekend, with at least a little sunshine expected.
