2 suspects in custody after 2-year-old boy shot on Detroit's east side
(CBS DETROIT) - A 2-year-old boy is recovering after being shot in the thigh Tuesday night on Detroit's east side.
The shooting happened in the 500 block of Dickerson Avenue at the Jefferson Square Apartments.
Police say the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. They say Darius Lacey, 27, and two other people went to the home to move things out when they encountered the child's mother and her new boyfriend. Police say an argument led to shots being fired, and the child was caught in the crossfire.
Lacey, who dated the child's mother, fled the home in a black Dodge Charger after the shooting. He later surrendered to police Wednesday afternoon. A second individual turned himself in Tuesday night.
"That makes me feel hurt, sad and devastated because these kids is not really asked to be here, and so much crime and things going on in the city, we have to watch our kids," said neighbor Michelle Dorsey. "Young kids don't have nothing to do with our personal lives or business; we should handle it a different way."
Police say the child was taken to the hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
