Child Drowns During Pool Party

DETROIT (WWJ) - It started as a pool party, but ended in tragedy as an 11-year old drowns.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports it happened at a house Sunday night on Kelly, south of 8 Mile Road. The house is used by neighborhood outreach program, Life Builders. The victim, identified as 11-year-old Robert Stewart, was found at the bottom of the pool about an hour after someone noticed he was missing. Stewart was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sunday was the first day the program invited kids in the neighborhood to enjoy the pool. There's been no comment from officials with Life Builders.

An investigation into what may have led to the drowning is underway.
