Chelios Talks Pucks, Book And Politics - A 'Michigan Matters' Exclusive
(CBS Detroit) - Retired Red Wings Hall of Famer defenseman Chris Chelios no longer laces up his skates to play for the Detroit.
NHL team but tells "Michigan Matters" host Carol Cain that his heart is still on the ice and in the Motor City.
Chelios, now 52, is working in the front office of the Red Wings organization.
"It was so easy," said Chelios said about the transition during the show which airs 11:30 a.m. Sunday on CBS 62. "I'm fortunate to be where I am."
He talks about being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and how much it meant to him.
He also just co-wrote a new book "Made in America" about his life with Kevin Allen, a sportswriter at USA Today he has known for 30 years.
"I wanted to tell my story but make sure it was kid friendly," Chelios said.
Also on the show, the roundtable of Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, businesswoman Denise Ilitch and Dewey Square executive Jill Alper who dissect what election 2014 will mean for Gov. Rick Snyder's second term.
They talked about Snyder, who is currently in China for his fourth trade mission to the huge Asian nation.
Speaking of politics, Chelios was asked if he ever entertained the idea of going into politics as other athletes have done after retiring.
