Charlie Villanueva Cut From Olympics Team, Deemed 'Overweight'
The Detroit Pistons $40 million man Charlie Villanueva will not be on the Dominican Republic's National Team for this summer's Olympics. Head coach for the DR is Kentucky's John Calipari and Calipari deemed Villanueva "overweight," saying to Deportes en la Z, "Charlie was not in good form when we saw him." He added: "He was overweight, and unfortunately, we could not slow down the entire team and it was a decision taken collectively."
Villanueva played in 13 games for the Pistons this season while battling a sprained ankle.
The Dominican National Team features Al Horford, Jon Horford and Francisco García among others.
