Chapels, Cakes And Caterers On Hand For The LGBT Wedding Expo
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The fact that the issue of gay marriage is in legal limbo didn't stop hundreds from attending the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) wedding expo in Southfield .
As Newsradio 950's Kathryn Larson reports, despite Michigan's gay marriage law snag, it's not stopping metro Detroiters from planning to "get hitched."
Cindy Clardy and Jocelyn Waters of Southfield, dressed for the occasion in matching red t-shirts, been together since 2005.
Although they have gone through a commitment ceremony they are looking forward to making it legal with a marriage made in Michigan:
"That's why we didn't get married the first time (referring to the one day window in Michigan law) - plus we wanted our anniversary to be on the same June fourth that we had our commitment ceremony, we don't have to memorize two different ... dates," said Waters.
Just under 100 vendors, including photographers, bakers, caterers,
florists, and wedding event planners, took part in the expo, designed to cater specifically to the gay community.
