Celebrate The 'Holly Days' In Downtown Farmington

FARMINGTON (WWJ) - The annual Downtown Farmington Holly Days event will be held December 3 and 4 with plenty of festive activities for the entire family. The market will be held Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.

One of the many highlights is the Greens and Gifts Market at the Sundquist Pavilion, where you find local artisans and crafters and bring home fresh greens and unique holiday gifts sure to please anyone on your gift list.

Kids of all ages won't want to miss Farmington's own North Pole, complete with free photos with Santa on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Also at the Farmington North Pole, visit the Tree of Wishes, where children can write their Christmas wish on an ornament and hang it on the tree. Families are also encouraged to bring a new pair of socks or mittens which will be collected for a local charity.

Doug Gahns, CEC of Oakland Community College Culinary Studies Institute, and his assistant will create art from ice at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Mike Greer Photography Studio (33316 Grand River Ave.) will be magically transformed into Santa's Workshop for the Holly Days weekend -- where children can make a free special holiday keepsake and listen to holiday stories with Mrs. Claus. Santa's Workshop also offers free gift wrapping service and free fresh-baked cookies.

You can also get into the spirit of the season with two free holiday movies showing at the Farmington Civic Theater (33332 Grand River Ave.). The Polar Express will play at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Shrek the Halls will play at 10:15 a.m., 11:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and 1:15 p.m. Movie goers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food or new, unwrapped toys or a donation to the Farmington Area Goodfellows benefiting seniors and families in need.

On Sunday, there will be a live performance of the Nutcracker Ballet at 2 p.m. at the Farmington Civic Theater.

The Governor Warner Mansion (33805 Grand River Ave.) will have a Holiday Open House on Saturday from 1  to 7 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Entrance fees are $2 for adults and $1 for children.

The Farmington Area Jaycees Holiday Tree Lighting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Governor Warner Mansion, where you can also enjoy caroling, a visit from Santa and light refreshments in the Carriage House.

Throughout the weekend, see and hear carolers from local groups stroll the streets of Downtown Farmington, as well as the Salvation Army Band who will be performing from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Find gifts and treasures galore at the Holiday Craft Show at Salem United Church of Christ (33424 Oakland St.) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
