Cavaliers Top Wolverines 70-58
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WWJ) - Zack Novak had a team high 12 points but it wasn't enough as the Michigan Wolverines fall to the Virginia Cavaliers 70-58 on Tuesday night.
As heard on WWJ 950 - the Wolverines (5-2) matched play in the first half but stalled defensively in the second half to the hot hands of the Cavaliers (6-1) in the first round of the Bit Ten-ACC Challenge.
Michigan went for almost seven minutes in the second half without scoring - after starting the half with a 16-10 run.
Mike Scott and Joe Harris both contributed 18 points for Virginia to upset No. 14 Michigan.
Fouls and the resulting free throws made the difference for the Cavaliers - nailing 77 percent (17-22) to Michigans' 57 percent getting to the line seven times and hitting only four free throws.
Trey Burke had 11 points and four rebounds - Evan Smotrycz put in 11 pts. and had five rebounds for the Wolverines.
