Caught In The Act: Detroit Man Faces Multiple Counts Of Home Invasion
DETROIT (WWJ) - A 20-year-old man has been charged with breaking into Detroit homes after police say two of his victims caught him in the act.
Larry Hutcherson is due back in court Wednesday after being arraigned on multiple counts of home invasion.
Police say that on Sept. 29, Hutcherson broke out the rear window of a home on Edmore Street and tried to unlock the door. Two men who were home at the time, ages 44 and 18, exited the front door and went to the rear of the home to detain Hutcherson, who fled from the location.
The 18-year-old ran after Hutcherson, and caught him. Supposedly, Hutcherson physically assaulted the victim and a struggle ensued. The victims then detained Hutcherson until officers arrived and he was taken into custody with any further incidents.
Police believe Hutcherson is responsible for other home invasions that occurred from May through September on the city's east side. In each incident, the homeowner discovered broken windows in their home and several items missing.
"With the assistance of citizens, we have been able to close these cases," Interim Chief Chester Logan said in a statement. "Our Criminal Investigators do excellent work, but it is the involvement of everyday citizens that makes the difference in most cases."
