Catholics Flow To Easter Sunday Mass
ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Choir and organ services filled the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak. Hundreds flocked to hear the music before Easter mass on Sunday.
WWJ's Kathryn Larson reports that parking is at a premium in the lots around churches today.
Diane Stelly of Royal Oak says this is a good time to reflect and be grateful for the things we have in our life.
Diana Fleszar - from Royal Oak doesn't always attend church - but Easter is one important mass she would never miss:
Easter to us means the resurrection of Christ and a new beginning, and being around other people who have the same beliefs," said Diana Fleszar.
Fleszar said her husband Ted made it a point this year to observe an important lent practice.
"Just to uphold the traditions: I had meatless Fridays all the way through lent - so typically my diet was just fish on Fridays and vegetarian," said Ted Fleszar.
The two say they are spiritual even though they can't always make it to service.
Sixth grader Jack Stelly attends school at the Shrine. He tells me he gave up something special for Lent. "I gave up video games this year ... it was pretty hard," said Stelly.
Nine-year-old Ben Ewald listens to the service from a pew and says that he didn't give up a thing for lent, instead: "Actually I made a committment that I would do something, I just started praying every night from the beginning of lent."
Ann Leen tells WWJ that Easter has always meant family and celebration centering around a big dinner.
