Carjacking In Hamtramck Leads To Early Morning Arrest
DETROIT (WWJ) - Three women were the victims of a carjacking and sexual assault in Hamtramck.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports that four women were leaving the Painted Lady Bar in Hamtramck early Saturday morning.
Detective Derek Suwalkowski says two women were in the van, and two more were approaching the van when a man with a gun jumped in, he says one woman jumped out.
"At gun-point he ordered the other three ladies to get in to drive away. He directed them to drive within the Van Dyke - Harper area, he had them pull into an alley area between some vacant houses - where he sexually assaulted the three," said Suwalkowski.
Suwalkowski says the man then forced them to go to a BP Gas station at I-94 & Van Dyke, forcing one woman to go in to get money from an ATM. Suwalkowski says she told the attendant to call police. The suspect took off with the other two and allegedly sexually assaulted them again before Detroit Police found the vehicle and arrested him.
Hamtramck Police are crediting the quick thinking of the gas station attendant who called police when alerted by one of the women that she needed help.
