Carell, Gosling Co-star In Crazy, Stupid, Love
BIRMINGHAM (WWJ) - Popular actor Steve Carell has come a long way since editing his school newspaper as a child. One of his most popular roles is that of "Michael Scott" in "The Office," a role that won him a 2006 Golden Globe Award.
This weekend, he stars in the Warner Bros. Pictures release "Crazy, Stupid, Love," as Cal Weaver. At 40-something, Cal is still married to his high school sweetheart and life is good. Or so he thinks. Out having dinner with his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), he's shocked to learn that Emily has been having an affair and wants a divorce. His "perfect" life is suddenly turned upside-down.
When Cal moves out of the family's home, he meets the handsome womanizer, Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). Gosling's character is the completely opposite of Carell's.
"He fancies himself as a lothario and he thinks he's got it all figured out and he meets this man named Cal Weaver, who is just recently divorced and taking very good care of himself and he sort of takes Cal on as a project and probably ends up learning more from Cal at the end of the day," Gosling said.
Gosling added that he was excited to be working with Carell, an actor he has long admired.
"When I first moved to Los Angeles, I got a small part in a pilot and Steve Carell also had a small part in that pilot," Gosling said. "And we never worked together, but he was so funny, that I would just go to set to watch his takes and watch his scenes, and there was one scene where he was so funny, he was just making things up that the boom guy threw the mic down and had a laugh attack in the corner, and I just thought he was so talented so I made a promise to myself that I would work with him one day."
Gosling's promise was one he had a chance to keep when he was offered the role of Jacob in Crazy, Stupid, Love. Just as the title indicates, Crazy, Stupid, Love tackles a pretty tough subject but it does so deftly.
So, if your weekend plans include a trip to the movies and you're in the mood for a "chick flick" that'll also appeal to the guys, Crazy, Stupid, Love is that flick. Check it out and chances are you'll enjoy it. After all, who can't relate to "Cazy, Stupid, Love?"
