CARE House Of Oakland County Opens New Facility
PONTIAC (WWJ) - CARE House of Oakland County is presenting the Grand Opening of its new facility on Friday, April 15, as the organization successfully moves into a new home.
The new facility will allow CARE House to serve the immediate needs of abused and neglected children while also providing advocacy and prevention programs aimed at breaking the cycle of abuse and neglect.
During a capital campaign, the CARE House Campaign for Kids, community leaders and organizations have been raising the $4 million required build the new 14,000 square-foot building on Woodward Avenue in Pontiac.
Standing just north of the previous 6,500 square-foot building, the new larger home for CARE House will provide the space needed to match the demand for its services which have continued to grow at a steady rate.
"In the past decade, we have seen a 600 percent increase in the number of children coming through our facility's intervention program alone," Patricia Rosen, Executive Director of CARE House of Oakland County, said in a release. "We expect the need for our services to continue to grow for the foreseeable future. That's why leaders in our community joined together in order to make our new 'home' a reality."
The new CARE House features an expanded ability to serve more child victims of abuse with space for multi-disciplinary teams to collaborate on cases.
The building nearly triples existing therapy space, eliminating the current waiting list for children to get the critical therapy needed to begin a healing process and significantly expands the organization's abuse prevention training programs.
Art Van Furniture generously donated 12 rooms of new furniture for the new CARE House building. In 2009, CARE House of Oakland County was one of the recipients of the Art Van Million Dollar Charity challenge and received $50,000 toward its CARE House Campaign for Kids capital campaign.
"Every time the doors to CARE House open, a child's future enters," Cathy Weissenborn, President of CARE House of Oakland County's Board of Trustees, said in a release. "With the new building comes endless opportunities to help each child's future be the best it can be."
