Car Strikes, Kills 2 Motorcyclists, Driver Held Pending Possible Charges
ALLEN PARK (WWJ) - Two people were pronounced dead at the scene following a crash on I-94 over the weekend.
Calls began coming into the newsroom around 2:45 p.m. Saturday regarding a crash involving motorcycles on I-94 at Oakwood in Allen Park.
Marko Cigatino Rubin, 48, from Macomb and France Kevan Bowers, 49 from Southfield were both killed in the collision.
A preliminary investigation shows that a 2005 Ford Escape was traveling eastbound I-94 near Oakwood when the 34-year-old driver lost control of her car causing it to run off the roadway and cross the large median towards westbound I-94.
The car then entered westbound I-94 crossing the roadway and simultaneously struck two 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycles that were westbound and also the trailer of a westbound semi truck.
"During the check of her vehicle we did find a small amount of marijuana," Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw told WWJ. "Also a small amount of heroin inside the vehicle - we asked for a blood draw -- we are waiting on the results of the blood draw to determine what was actually in her system."
The woman was driving on a suspended license and she is being held pending the prosecutors review for possible charges.
There were no other injuries. An investigation continues by Michigan State Police.
