A Shelby Township home caught fire, early Wednesday, after a car drove into it.
Fire officials said the car smashed into the house on Sandra Lane, near 22 Mile and Schoenherr Road just after 12 a.m..
WWJ Newsradio 950 spoke with a next door neighbor who described the scene: "It's like the car went through the driveway, all the way in the backyard and smashed the patio door and caught on fire. And then the house caught on fire."
WWJ's Bill Szumanski reported from over the home in Chopper 950.
"It looks like a small sports car that had buried into the first ground level of the house. The strange thing is the car crashed through the backyard, but there are a bunch of trees and other houses. I have absolutely no idea how that car came across these backyards and into, buried this house," Szumanski said.
There were no reports of injuries. The neighbor said no one was home at the time of the crash.
It was not immediately known what caused the incident. Police and arson officials are investigating.
