Car Recovered On Detroit's East Side Might Have Been Involved In Pedestrian's Hit-And-Run Death
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police have recovered a vehicle on the city's east side that might have been involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident earlier this week.
Investigators found the car, a red Chevy Cavalier, Thursday morning parked outside of a home on Orleans Street off Grixdale Avenue, near Nevada Avenue and Dequindre Street just east of I-75. The vehicle had major front-end damage and was completely missing its windshield.
Police could not say for sure if the vehicle was involved in the deadly pedestrian crash Tuesday night, but they are processing it for evidence.
The accident happened around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday on Michigan Avenue at Cicotte Street, just west of Livernois Avenue in southwest Detroit. Police say a red Chevy Cavalier was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck 52-year-old Bruce Key, who was crossing the street. Key ended up on the hood of the car as the suspect continued driving for about two blocks. The suspect then pulled into an alley and reportedly removed Key's body from the vehicle, then fled the scene.
No arrests have been made in the case. Investigators are looking for up to five suspects: a white male who was driving, and four black males who were passengers.
