Car Leaves Freeway After Collision With Motorcycle; Police Say Alcohol Likely Involved
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are investigating an accident along the Southfield Freeway in Detroit that possibly might have been fueled by alcohol.
The accident happened early Friday morning on M-39 near Grand River Avenue.
According to police, a car was traveling southbound on the freeway when it struck a motorcycle. After the collision, the car veered to the right and went up the embankment, onto the service drive and into the neighborhood, where it flipped over.
The female driver survived and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Police on the scene told reporters the motorcyclist was killed in the crash. They later amended it to say he was in critical condition. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
Investigators say alcohol might have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Lanes on Southfield Freeway were closed for a few hours after the accident, but have since reopened.
