Cannabis Counsel Reacts To Court Upholding Medical Marijuana Law
LANSING (WWJ) - The State Supreme Court has upheld Michigan's voter approved medical marijuana law. Cannabis Counsel's Matthew Able tells WWJ's Florence Walton the ruling is what he had hoped for.
"I think it will set back some of the vicious prosecutors; especially in Oakland County. They are going to have to reassess the amount of effort that they want to put into prosecuting patients and care givers," said Able.
Able says the ruling protects medical marijuana registry card holders as well as providing a defense for people who are arrested and have a doctor recommendation but no card.
"The difference between having a card and not having a card - would be that a card holder would not be arrested. A person who only had a medical recommendation could still be arrested but their case should also be dismissed later," said Able.
The Supreme Court ruling does not affect dispensaries or the recreational user.
