Can You Imagine Living In "The D" During A Zombie Apocalypse?

DETROIT (WWJ) - Producers of a new web series based in Detroit are hosting a red carpet screening before its upcoming online debut. The series, titled "DEAD WRONG," is a comedy chronicling the exploits of two friends from the city's east side.

"Dead Wrong is basically about two young men growing up on the east side of Detroit during a zombie apocalypse," Darren Brown, director and executive producer, told WWJ's Terri Lee. "They're learning how to survive but not necessarily being responsible about surviving."

There have been numerous movies and TV shows produced recently that are about surviving during a zombie apocalypse, and that includes the extremely popular "The Walking Dead." So, what's behind their popularity?

"Why they're so popular now is because we're doing so much with all these different viral diseases and things like that," said comedian Josh Adams who stars as Rell. "It seems like something that can really happen, so you like to play with the prospect of what if this did happen and if it did, how would the world react to it."

Adams wrote and also is a producer of "DEAD WRONG." He says the idea came to him because he's a big fan of "The Walking Dead."

"I know what's going on in Atlanta while 'The Walking Dead' is happening, but what's going on in Detroit where it's a totally different culture, people move differently, you know, so you see zombies in our series that (are wearing) thousand-dollar Cartier glasses ... red bottom heels, Michael Kors purses, because you know, that's just the culture we live in," Adams said. "So, I wanted to see how zombies who've eaten coney islands before would react."

With the Internet offering so many web series for viewers to choose from, how do Brown and Adams plan to set themselves apart?

"We're going to keep creating content," Brown responded. "I mean, what people want on the web is consistency, and they just want a lot packed into five minutes, so that's what we plan on doing, just giving people a lot to think about; the short web series that we're making, as well as the films that we're making. We just want to keep creating original content for people to see."

Following the showing at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak, "Dead Wrong" will be available to watch on YouTube. But, if you want to be among the first to see the entire series of eight episodes, the two longtime friends and business associates are encouraging metro Detroiters to attend the premiere.  It takes place on Thursday, June 23, 2016.  Tickets are $20 each and are available by calling Brown at (313) 450-2042.
