Camp Game Leads To Broken Teeth, Lawsuit
CHARLEVOIX (AP) - Confusion over a children's game caused a mouthful of broken teeth - and a lawsuit against a Michigan camp.
The Michigan appeals court says a jury can decide whether Camp Sea-Gull in Charlevoix was negligent when a child was struck in the mouth with a flagpole while playing capture the flag.
Julie Gamze lost a tooth, and three more were cracked as she chased another camper who was running with the pole in 2007. A metal stake on the pole struck her mouth.
A judge said the camp wasn't at fault. But the appeals court reinstated the case Friday, saying jurors should sort out whether campers were told to grab a towel and run or the flagpole. A message seeking comment was left for the camp's lawyer.
