Cafe With Cats? Sounds Purr-fect For This New Businesswoman
ANN ARBOR (CBS DETROIT) - A cafe with cats. That's the novel idea of an Ann Arbor entrepreneur who plans to merge coffee and cat adoption in Ann Arbor.
Miranda Bono is hoping to open "The Cat's Meow" Cat Cafe in early 2016. The part coffee shop and part rescue center is really popular in Japan and Europe, and has been popping up across the country reports WWJ's Zahra Huber.
"What we'll do is partner with a rescue center and they will give us cats that will live in the cafe until they are adopted," says Bono. "People can come and order a coffee and enter the cat room and play with the cats and socialize them and give them attention up until they are adopted, or they can chose to adopt one of them."
She says that she's known about these cat cafes for years and always thought it would be impossible to duplicate due to health codes.
"But people are starting to make it work with separate areas," she says.
Bono says they're trying to raise funds and get more support to start up the business. They're also working closely with the health department to make sure everything is safe and up to code.
