Cabrera Plans To Play In Season Opener

--3B Miguel Cabrera, rebounding from an eye injury, went through a semi-strenuous one-hour workout March 28 at the team's training facility in Lakeland, Fla. Cabrera worked primarily on fielding ground balls at his usual post at third base, and then took a number of swings in the batting cage.

Cabrera, 28, suffered a small break of a bone under his right eye March 19 when hit by a bouncing ball. He might be able to return to Grapefruit League action as soon as March 29, and he expects to play on Opening Day.

--RF Magglio Ordonez, who remains a free agent, wrote on his Twitter account in Spanish that he is close to retiring. Ordonez, 38, has suffered a fracture in the right ankle in each of the last two seasons. Last year, he hit .255/.303/.331 with five homers and 32 RBI in 92 games with the Tigers.
