Cabrera Cracks 100 RBI For Ninth Year In A Row
3B Miguel Cabrera reached 100 RBI the quickest of any of his nine consecutive triple-digit-RBI seasons Tuesday night with an opposite-field single in the seventh. Cabrera made it 101 with an RBI double in the ninth. He became the third Detroit player to drive in 100 RBI in five consecutive seasons, joining Harry Heilmann and Charlie Gehringer. "He'll have five more with 100 unless he gets hurt," manager Jim Leyland said. "He's just a terrific hitter. He can hit the ball 450-500 feet, and he can hit it over the first baseman's head or down the line." Cabrera reached 100 RBI in his 117th game of the season, four earlier than 2010, his previous quickest to the century mark.
--RHP Doug Fister survived four unearned runs in the third inning Tuesday night, allowing no other runs in his eight-inning outing as Detroit rallied for an 8-4 victory at Minnesota. "Dougie, I thought, was terrific," manager Jim Leyland said. "He still had pretty good stuff at the end." Leyland let Fister throw a career-high 120 pitches. Fister raised his post-All-Star-break record to 5-1 with the five-hit outing. The one bad pitch he didn't get away with was a cutter that LF Josh Willingham hit for his 30th home run, a three-shot at the end of the third that tied the score at 4-4.
