Cabrera Boosts AL-Best RBI Total To 95
3B Miguel Cabrera is just five RBI from his ninth consecutive season of 100 or more runs driven in. Cabrera drove in three Tuesday night with his 29th home run in the fourth -- his third straight game with a home run -- and a two-run double in the fifth to help key Detroit's 6-5 victory over the Yankees. Both hits went to left field, unusual for the slugger, but he was ahead in the count in both instances, so he got a good pitch to hit.
--LF/RF Andy Dirks started his second consecutive game Tuesday night, an indication he may have edged in front of LF Quintin Berry for outfield playing time. He was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice fly hitting second Monday and had two singles, a double and two RBI Tuesday. Dirks gives Detroit more pop than Berry and has a better arm. It's likely manager Jim Leyland will try to squeeze in playing time for both.
