'Cable Guy' Busted In Repair Call Theft
CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - A cable repairman has been arrested after police say he made off with $10,000 in jewelry from a Chesterfield Township home.
According to police, the homeowners became suspicious of the "cable guy" who was called to their 25 Mile Road home to fix a problem with their phone line.
The residents said the man, who works for LE Com Communications, which contracts with Comcast, directed them to help by looking at
things in other areas of the home while he was "checking for the problem" in their bedroom.
After telling the couple that he had fixed the problem, he left. At that time, the couple found that the top shelf of the family jewelry box had been cleared out of expensive and sentimental jewelry.
The couple called police and the suspect, 22-year-old Lequentin Randolph of Detroit, was pulled over in the cable truck.
He was arrested after a police officer saw two pieces of gold jewelry on the driver's seat. Later, police said they found the rest of the couple's missing jewelry in a bag hidden behind a panel in the truck.
Bond has been set at $5,000 for Randolph who has been charged with felony larceny.
He's set to appear in court on Monday for a preliminary exam.
