Bush Says Ankle Feels Good, Will Do His Best To Be Available Sunday

CBS DETROIT - Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush continues to battle an ankle injury leading up to Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

The injury he suffered when the team played the Buffalo Bills hampered him in last week's game against the New Orleans Saints, and when he spoke to Stoney, Bill and Sara of 97.1 The Ticket, Bush did not sound as sure of his status for the game as he did the week before.

"The ankle's good - just taking it day by day," Bush said. "I'm trying to do my best to just be smart, make sure I'm healthy. Obviously I want to be out there on the field Sunday, and I'm going to do everything I can to be out there on the field Sunday, but I'm also going to be smart about it, too, so it feels good, practiced yesterday, and we'll see how it goes today.

"Injuries are annoying," Bush added. "I've learned over the years just to be smart about them, and obviously I got rolled up on it twice this last game so just trying to maintain it and do the best I can to get back on the football field as quickly as possible."

Bush said the reception of the Lions in London has been positive. He said the NFL has a significant following not only in London but also in Australia, which he visited over the summer. The NFL and the British government have stated a goal of putting a team in London, and Bush said he believes it will happen at some point. As far as whether he would play for such a team, Bush declined to commit one way or the other.

"I think it'd be cool," Bush said. "It's definitely something that's intriguing. I'm not sure if I can say yes or no right away, but it's definitely something that's intriguing and could be a cool and a good opportunity. We'll see about that. Like I said, I still believe it's only a matter of time before there's a team here. It's part of the reason why there's games played here every year, and it's just growing. It's just growing the NFL and trying to make it bigger internationally."

The Lions are staying outside of London early in the week, but Bush said he had dinner in the city with his wife. Beyond that, he does not plan on seeing much of London.

"My first priority is just to get my body back to being healthy," Bush said. "This is still a business trip, and I don't want to treat it like anything else. I don't want to get caught doing too much sightseeing and too much non-football stuff because we do have a job to do. We still need to win this game before we go into this bye week. I'm sure all the other guys feel the same way."
